''Believers, fasting has been prescribed for you,
just as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard
yourselves against evil. " -(Quran 2:183 )
Fasting
is commonly understood as a physical process of
abstinence
from food and drink. Yes, the process invariably starts from abstinence of food
and drink, which has calming action on our biological systems - culminating in
mental smoothness. Once the mind is tranquil, comes the sense of
discrimination. So in spirit, "Ramadan" brings an opportunity to
focus on the mental process and abstain from all undesirable activities.
"Ramadan " is essentially a period of spiritual training to establish
our thoughts and deeds for a refined character.
Seeing
the 'new moon' of " Ramadan ", the Prophet exclaimed - " O God, make this month for us a month of peace and
submission ".
And that is the true spirit of " Ramadan " - live and let live in
peace. " Etikaf ", practised during Ramadan, is a period of
meditation, contemplation, introspection and self-improvement.
Thank you Mr. Dev for your reference of The Holy Quran regarding Ramadan. I find it specially significant because you, being a follower of a different path to religious achievement, understand and express our doctrines better than that of our mythical mullahs.
ReplyDeleteWish I could have studied the Quran as sincerely as you. Believe me, now I have come to a state of understanding all different path of religion as not only true but practically essential for different cultures.
PEACE & PROSPERITY BE OURS ONLY AND ONLY THROUGH UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD WHICH WILL ONLY BE POSSIBLE ON FIRM FAITH ON COSMIC DIVINITY.
Would like you to post more about human-religion vis-a-vis the cause & effect of Survival of this Small-World.
I miss you.
